MIFF 2012’s Madrid, 1987, by David Trueba, will return to MDC’s Tower Theater on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6:20 PM  followed by a Q&A with producer Jessica Berman.  In the film, Miguel (José Sacristan), a veteran newspaper columnist in his 70s with a world-weary tone and the libido of a much younger man, agrees to be interviewed by Ángela (María Valverde), a young journalism student barely in her 20s. Due to an incident involving a broken lock, the pair are trapped together all night in a tiny bathroom.  The forced intimacy strips away social politeness as Miguel and Ángela learn more about each other and discover a wellspring of untapped emotions.

Berman has worked with both director David Trueba and with newly announced MIFF 2013 Tributee, Fernando Trueba. She first worked with Oscar-winning director Fernando Trueba on Two Much (1995) and went on to line produce several of his films, including La niña de tus ojos (1998), the Latin jazz documentary Calle 54 (2000) and El embrujo de Shanghai (2002). She produced Soldados de Salamina (2003) with David Trueba, which was presented in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and was chosen as the Spanish entry for the foreign language Oscar.
