Impact Award

2021 WINNER

Actor, producer, screenwriter and activist Riz Ahmed was the recipient of the 2021 Miami Film Festival Impact Award. Ahmed was honored for his Academy Award-nominated work illuminating the Recovery community within the Deaf Community, a world often invisible in our society, as star of the Oscar-winning film Sound of Metal. Ahmed was also honored for his activism in spotlighting the work of Muslim creative artists in the film industry, which includes serving as executive producer on Jonas Poher Rasumussen’s Sundance Film Festival-winning animated documentary Flee, and as producer/co-writer and star of Bassam Tariq’s Mogul Mowgli, about a Pakistani Muslim rap artist in the United Kingdom.
