Miami International Film Festival, Produced and Presented by Miami Dade College, Unveils 2014 Official Poster
Miami, FL — Miami International Film Festival’s 2014 poster image was selected from the work of Manchester-born, Miami-based portraiture photo artist Shayna Batya. Batya’s image marks the fourth time in MIFF’s 31 year history that a photograph will represent the Festival. Embodying MIFF’s “Every Character Under the Sun” theme, Batya’s image takes a moving look at both grizzled movie characters and movie makeup magic.
“Shayna Batya has photographed subjects around the world, though it is her voluminous work and unique take on documenting the life and people of Miami that caught our attention,” said MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante. “The faces she captures on film speak to character, movies and mystery…and Miami.”
To celebrate a new season of MIFF’s CINEDWNTWN program, presented by Downtown Development Authority of Miami, the poster will be launched at downtown Miami’s new CU1 Gallery in The Security Building.
Artist statement: “One can tell so much or so little from a portrait photograph. Photography allows a viewer to guess if an image is “real” or not…Like film, a portrait photograph mirrors reality in a way that can be so convincing, it feels ‘real’. Everybody has a story, everyone is a character.” – Shayna Batya
