MIFF Partners with MTV Latin America and Tr3s for REEL Music Video Art Competition 2014

Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) is partnering with MTV Latin America and Tr3s and is currently seeking contemporary music videos of unique vision and superlative artistry from around the globe for its REEL Music Video Art Competition, to be held during MIFF’s 31st edition from March 7-16, 2014.

The new competition category arises from MIFF’s Reel Music Video Art program, launched in 2010, which featured creative music videos displaying music as an art form, where filmmakers such as Hammer and Tongs, Nat Livingston Johnson & Snejina Latev, Matthew Lessner and Judah Switzer showcasing their talents on videos for bands like Vampire Weekend, Here We Go Magic, Fool’s Gold and YACHT among others.

MIFF’S REEL Music Video Art Competition, presented by MTV Latin America and Tr3s is open to all musical acts and video artists with a special emphasis placed on Latin American work (including videos for U.S. Hispanic musical acts and/or videos created by U.S. Hispanic video artists). Approximately 10 contemporary music videos will be chosen as finalists, to be judged by MTV Latin America staff members and MIFF programmers. 
Videos submitted are required to be a minimum of two (2) minutes and a maximum of ten (10) minutes running time and in global circulation only after March 1, 2013.  Submissions are now open through Monday, January 13, 2014.  Entries shall be made online via reelport.com‘s secure portal and there is no fee for submissions.

REEL MUSIC VIDEO ART 2014 COMPETITION TIMELINE

  • January 13, 2014:  Submissions deadline (this will be final, with no extensions)
  • Late January:  REEL Music Video Art competition shortlist of ten (10) titles announced by MIFF
  • February 1, 2014:  Catalogue materials and exhibition copy due to MIFF for REEL Music Art finalists
  • March 7 – 16, 2014:  REEL Music Video Art program to be screened as part of MIFF 2014.
The winning video maker will receive an art trophy award from MIFF and be broadcast on MTV Latin America and Tr3s’ websites.  —Tatyana Chiocchetti
