Awards Night Film: Venus and Serena |
Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) unveiled its extraordinary 2013 lineup this morning at MDC’s historic Freedom Tower via a LIVE streaming feed as executive director, Jaie Laplante, spoke of milestones not only from the past but about forging ahead with new ones. MIFF will both open and close its 30th Edition with documentary feature films, another first in its colorful history. On the heels of its World Premiere at Sundance this month, Opening Night Gala film Morgan Neville’s Twenty Feet From Stardom, showcases music’s unheralded voices — following women like Darlene Love and Judith Hill who have toiled for years as back-up singers to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones. The Festival will culminate with Awards Night on Saturday, March 9th with Maiken Baird and Michelle Major’s revealing film, Venus and Serena, of the tennis-conquering Williams sisters, during the hardest year of their careers, as they defy skeptics to stay on top of their game. The full line-up, which includes 12 world premieres, seven international premieres, 13 North American premieres, and 15 U.S. premieres, was announced to the press today, and will be on-line at www.miff2020.wpengine.com for Miami Film Society members’ pre-purchase period starting Friday Feb. 1st.
