On Saturday, June 19th at 8pm, celebrate Juneteenth at Tower Theater Miami with a special screening of WADE IN THE WATER: DROWNING IN RACISM. This short film, by Emmy-Award winning South Florida filmmaker Cathleen Dean, dives deep into Black Florida’s 1960s fight for the right to swim in state beaches and swimming pools. After the film, participate in a live discussion with the filmmaker and Miami Film Festival / Tower Theater’s Director of Events Programming Nicolas Calzada in our post-screening reception. Special guests Maurice “Maui” GoodbeerMaui, founder of StreetWaves, Thaddeus Gamory, faculty member with Center for Mind Body Medicine, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships with Diversity in Aquatics and President SWIMS Foundation and Miriam Lynch Phd., Executive Director of Diversity in Aquatics will join the conversation.
