Miami International Film Festival, Produced & Presented by Miami Dade College, Launches its 30th Anniversary Celebrations with the Opening Night Film, Twenty Feet From Stardom, and the Ultimat Opening Night After Party

WHO & WHAT:

Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College, kicks off its Festival week with the opening night screening of the film Twenty Feet from Stardom. One of the film’s leading and legendary stars, Darlene Love, will be at the Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts for a special performance. After the screening, the celebrations will continue at the Ultimat Opening Night Party in The Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building.

Twenty Feet from Stardom, directed by Morgan Neville, is a documentary that shines a light on the black back-up singers who lend their strong voices to the songs that have become some of our favorites. Neville interviews music legends such as Bruce SpringsteenMick Jagger, and Stevie Wonder, whose music has been transformed by the help of the back-up singers. However, the real stars of the film are singers like Darlene LoveMerry Clayton, and Lisa Fischer. These women tell their stories behind their careers, their anonymity, and their experience being twenty feet from stardom.

MIFF’s Ultimat Opening Night Party will directly follow the screening. MIFF patrons will witness the transformation of the historic Alfred I. Dupont building with state-of-the-art adornments and savory food stations brought to you by the finest local restaurants including Tuyo Restaurant, 5 Napkin Burger, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, La Taberna Giralda, Morton’s The Steakhouse, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Piola, Season’s 52 Fresh Grill & Wine Bar, and Truluck’s Seafood, Steak & Crab House. Drinks such as Jolivet Sancerre wine, provided by Frederick Wildman, and an Ultimat Bar, provided by Patrón, will flow throughout the evening. Ultimat Vodka is one of the world’s most distinctive vodkas. Created in the birthplace of vodka—Poland—it is the only vodka distilled from a balance of grains (wheat and rye) and potato, a break from the traditional process of using just one or the other. The result is a subtle taste, smooth texture, and rich complexity uncommon in most vodkas. Ultimat vodka is bottled in a striking cobalt blue crystal decanter.
