Miami International Film Festival Presents Preview Screening of Acclaimed Documentary Series, Black in Latin America
Creator and host Henry Louis “Skip” Gates Jr. to attend
Miami, FL — Renowned Harvard scholar, writer and documentarian Henry Louis “Skip” Gates Jr. and WPBT 2 are giving Miami audiences a sneak peek of the documentary BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA when it premieres at the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC). Screenings will be held on Tuesday, March 7, Thursday, March 10 and Friday, March 11 at 9:15 p.m., at MDC’s Tower Theater. Professor Gates will be present and interacting with MIFF audiences during the Cuba documentary March 10.
BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA, a new four-part series on the influence of African descendants on Latin American culture, will premiere nationally on PBS in late April and early May (check local listings for date and time). Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and Peru are the six countries featured in the series.
BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA is a production of Inkwell Films, Wall to Wall Productions and THIRTEEN in association with WNET.
Professor Gates is no stranger to MDC. He last visited the college in the fall of 2009 for the Lincoln Bicentennial at MDC’s Freedom Tower. He’s is widely followed for his candor and rich perspectives.
