EFP (European Film Promotion) Joins UniFrance and Miami Film Festival to Launch the Miami Film Festival Mercado del Cine Frances y Europeo

The truncated 37th edition of Miami Dade College (MDC)’s acclaimed Miami Film Festival, which ran March 6 – 11, 2020, fulfilled its plan to host a French and European film sales market in collaboration with UniFrance and European Film Promotion (EFP) from March 8 – 11th, within the overall Festival program.

“Three years ago we created with Miami Film Festival an exciting opportunity for French sales agents and distributors from Latin America. What was originally a modest project proved to be a unique and very successful industry rendezvous for both our members and many buyers from key territories. We are now glad to associate our friends from EFP to this event,” said UniFrance deputy executive director, Gilles Renouard.

Welcoming agents, buyers and press, the Miami Film Festival Mercado Del Cine Frances y Europeo event consisted of sales meetings between Latin American distributors and European sales agents. Although several participants who were originally scheduled to attend were unable to do so due to international coronavirus prevention protocols, the majority of scheduled attendees were able to participate as planned. The market also included market screenings of new European films and advance promo reels.

“To push into the Latin American market, something EFP has been aiming to do for quite a while, is rather important in our endeavor to promote European films outside of Europe. It is fantastic to expand on UniFrance’s successful work. This is what EFP is all about, to jointly present bigger, stronger and more diverse portfolios of films to countries outside of Europe. And the Miami Film Festival with its strong focus on Latin America, provides a welcoming, very individual and perfect setting for it,” said Sonja Heinen, Managing Director of EFP.
