Acclaimed German actress and director Margarethe von Trotta, who was honored with MIFF’s Career Achievement Tribute at 2010 Festival, will be the latest recipient of the Leo Baeck Medal on November 28th at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The award is presented to individuals whose work resonated profoundly in the tradition of Rabbi Leo Baeck who, as the last public representative of the Jewish Community of Germany under the Nazis, worked to protect German Jews from persecution. Considered a pioneer and an icon of international feminist cinema since the 1970s, von Trotta ranks among the world’s most important filmmakers.
