festival program / Jordan Ressler First Feature Award

Fabulous

About

In a world where value depends on how many "likes" you receive online, three millennial women are about to discover what lengths they'll go to to achieve the ultimate virtual success.

Laurie is an ambitious aspiring writer whose career goals are proving difficult to achieve. Clara is a social media superstar, boasting thousands of followers and top end brand sponsorships to boot. When the two women have a chance encounter that blossoms into full-on #BFF status, things seem like they're as good as can be. But when Laurie gets a taste of fame and starts to surpass Clara's online popularity, paradoxes are exposed and relationships are put to the test.

Like a breezy All About Eve for the social media age, Fabulous is an endlessly entertaining exploration of Instagram obsession, the warped desire to appear perfect to the outside world, and a timely reminder that you can't always get what you want – no matter how many followers you have.

This screening is sponsored by the Jordan Alexander Ressler Charitable Fund, the Consulate General of Canada in Miami, Telefilm Canada and TV5MONDE USA.
