Miami Film Festival reiterated our commitment to a safe, in-person event of the 38th edition, March 5 – 14, 2021. We are excited to reveal our poster for the edition ahead, a specific homage to Miami Film Festival’s pride in the “305,” designed by Los Angeles-based artist Akiko Stehrenberger.
Stehrenberger is one of the most respected movie poster designers and illustrators of her generation. Stehrenberger imbues a unique brand of surrealism to the art of the movie poster, utilizing various techniques – including painting, computers, and traditional forms of graphic design – all while conceptually dissecting the films themselves, which helps to illuminate why Akiko is such a vital visual artist. Vanity Fair included her Funny Games and Kiss of the Damned posters in their “Best Movie Posters of All Time” list.
“I have heard Miami’s great historian Dr. Dorothy Jenkins talk about the importance of protecting traditions while embracing future generations,” said Miami Film Festival executive director Jaie Laplante. “Those words take on even greater meaning in the COVID era, and Akiko Stehrenberger’s image for our 2021 season finds the perfect balance of honoring our great history and placing faith in our hopes and dreams for cinema in the years ahead.”
