Dear Friends, Supporters, and Patrons of the Tower Theater Miami,
Miami Dade College (MDC) is proud to share an update as we prepare to assume responsibility for the Tower Theater Miami on November 1, 2026.
Over the past several weeks, MDC has been working closely with the City of Miami to ensure a smooth transition and to prepare the Tower Theater Miami to once again provide the high-quality experience our community expects and deserves.
Our teams have conducted a comprehensive walkthrough of the facility and are developing a transition, maintenance and enhancement plan. This work includes reviewing the building’s major systems and addressing needed improvements to the theater experience, including projection and screening technology, electrical systems, air conditioning, roof conditions and other facility needs.
We are grateful to the City of Miami, Mayor Higgins and the City Commission for their trust in Miami Dade College and their commitment to the future of the Tower Theater Miami. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the DREAM Office for their partnership and support in helping ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition.
This work is especially meaningful as we approach the Tower Theater Miami’s 100th anniversary in December. For nearly a century, the Tower Theater Miami has been an important cultural landmark and gathering place, including its historic role as one of Miami’s earliest theaters to present Spanish-language films and as a welcoming cultural home for generations of Cuban immigrants and the broader community.
In October, we will launch a new Tower Theater Miami website and visual identity and reopen bookings for 2027. In the weeks ahead, we will continue sharing updates, including progress from inside the Tower Theater Miami, as we count down to its anniversary on December 10, with daily programming starting in January.
We look forward to celebrating this treasured landmark with the entire community and ensuring the Tower Theater Miami continues to serve Miami for generations to come.
