VARIETY PARTNERSHIP + GEMS 2021 ANNOUNCEMENT!
BIG NEWS! The Worst Person In The World will screen at GEMS 2021
First of all, we announced yesterday a renewal of our partnership with VARIETY to present the 2022 International Feature Film Nominees Roundtable at our 39th edition, March 4 – 13, 2022, featuring next year’s five Oscar nominated directors. This timely discussion, hosted by VARIETY’s Film Awards Editor Clayton Davis, will take place for the public just before final voting begins on March 17, 2022.
Next up is that our annual fall awards showcase GEMS is moving to new dates! This year the GEMS Festival will unfold November 4 – 7, 2021 and serve as a prime showcase for top contenders among the International Feature Film submissions to the Oscars.
And finally, the first two GEMS titles have been announced, and they are both Cannes-award-winning films anticipated to be submitted by their home countries and to be top contenders for next year’s Oscars – Asghar Farhadi’s A Hero from Iran and Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World from Norway. Both Farhadi and Trier are Miami Film Festival alumni from previous editions and we look forward to sharing their career-topping new work at their Florida premieres at GEMS.
The full GEMS line-up will be unveiled in October.
