Variety Virtuoso Award – In Conversation with Javier Ambrossi & Javier Calvo & Guitarricadelafuente

90 mins

The directors and star of the sensational La Bola Negra are joining Miami Film Festival GEMS for a conversation about their Cannes winning film. The conversation is moderated by Variety's Co-Editor in Chief Ramin Setoodeh.

Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi are the acclaimed directors, writers, and producers collectively known as “Los Javis.” The duo most recently won Best Director at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

Los Javis previously created the international hit series Veneno on HBO Max. The series was named "one of the best TV shows of 2020" by The New Yorker. Los Javis also created, wrote, directed, and executive produced La Mesías, the first Spanish series to participate in the Sundance Film Festival; it went on to become one of the most celebrated and awarded series in Spain. Since 2021, Los Javis have been fan-favorite judges on the hit global TV show Drag Race Espana.

Guitarricadelafuente is a Spanish musician whose stage name fuses his surname, Lafuente, with the Aragonese diminutive for guitar, guitarrica. He first gained attention with the song "El Conticinio," which was later chosen for an Apple commercial directed by Spike Jonze and starring Pedro Pascal. He has two albums, La Cantera, and Spanish Leather. He makes his acting debut as Sebastián in La Bola Negra, the latest cinematic work from Cannes Film Festival-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (together known as “Los Javis”).
