Under the Mango Tree is a story about a man’s deeply rooted connection to the family mango tree and the history of his home town in Miami called Goulds. Harold Major Sr. grew up in this town with his 10 brothers and sisters and can recall stories of bright red tomatoes arriving by train that can also be traced back to the historical tomato industry in Goulds that is said to be pioneered by Lyman Gould. Major is known to many in the neighborhood as the Mango Man mainly for his green thumb to care for and grow the sweetest mangoes in the neighborhood. His environmental and agricultural upbringing is connected to the soul of this town in ways that history books have yet to explore. Through this short documentary, history will be noted and the Miami story will be enriched by stories from under the mango tree in Goulds.
