This documentary is a highly engaging and dynamic exploration of Cuban artist Humberto Castro’s personal life, as well as the Neofigurative aesthetic that defines his work.
Castro is internationally acclaimed, and his work is considered among the most original and important in contemporary Ibero-American art. His successful career began in Havana as part of the iconoclastic avant-garde known as the “Generation of the Eighties,” which shook the foundations of authoritarian art standards. He emigrated to Paris in 1989 and arrived in the United States ten years later.
He excels in a remarkable variety of visual art forms: painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, installations, and set design for theater and film. His work has received numerous international awards and is part of prestigious museum and private collections. Subsequent generations of Cuban artists have been influenced by his aesthetic and ethical values.
