The Queen of My Dreams stars Amrit Kaur as Azra, a Pakistani Canadian woman who has had a strained relationship with her parents since coming out as lesbian. Azra shows her girlfriend her favourite Bollywood film – Aradhana, the 1969 hit starring Sharmila Tagore.
Meanwhile, across the country in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Azra’s mother, Mariam, who is conservative, watches a similarly labelled VHS (except Mariam has recorded over her Bollywood movie with religious teachings) as she and her husband Hassan pack for a trip back home to Pakistan.
With the event of some shocking news, Azra also travels to Pakistan for an emotional journey.
Written and directed by Fawzia Mirza as her full-length directorial debut.
