Reynold is dying of stomach cancer. He must resign himself to starvation, as his condition gradually prevents him from eating normally. His missed rendezvous with death catches up with him, as the hunger inflicted on him in Fort-Dimanche prison stirs up dark memories. He uses the pretext of the last meals he is still able to eat to share them with his daughter, Vanessa, whom he hasn't seen in almost 20 years.
Hesitant at first, Vanessa accepts the invitation to see her father. Then, with the help of her aunt, who owns a Haitian food store, she prepares Haitian meals for her father. Over meals, a ritual takes place at Reynold’s bedside, as each of the traditional meals of his childhood acts has a reminiscence of his past.
