The King of All the World (El rey de todo el mundo)

Manuel, a famous stage director, is preparing his next show, a musical about making a musical. He seeks the help of Sara, a renowned choreographer and ex-wife, to help him cast and direct. During the casting process, the young dancer Ines appears as the new rising star. She brings her father into the story, a dubious character with dangerous dealings with the local mob.
As preparation for the show evolves, the desire to win pushes the dancers to excel, bringing out passion and tension between them. With powerful Mexican music setting the tone (Lila Downs, Carlos Rivera, Fela Dominguez), a play emerges in which tragedy, fiction, and reality all intertwine. The film is directed by legendary Spanish director Carlos Saura, with cinematography by master Vittorio Storaro.
Two new short films, both also directed by Carlos Saura:
Rosa Rosae
Saura creates and recovers more than thirty images, drawings, and photographs that he prints, manipulates, plays with, and subsequently films to produce a story which, while recreating the Spanish Civil War, also reflects the horrors of universal conflict, seen through the eyes of a child and his surroundings.
Running time: 6 minutes.
Goya
Carlos Saura “repaints” (in cinematic language) Francisco de Goya’s canvas On May 3 in Madrid, also known as The Executions, one of the most powerful statements a painter has made against war.
Running time: 14 minutes.
