Talking with Chago (Hablando con Chago)
An intimate, contemplative portrait of the Cuban Renaissance man, Santiago “Chago” Rodríguez. Engineer, writer, painter, film critic, and avid collector of film memorabilia. Chago opens the doors of his home-temple, making us happy accomplices to his privileged memory, which summons wisdom and recollections of all kinds.
Chago is an encyclopedic evocation of cinema as a vice. An unrepentant collector. A “naïve” painter of an enchanted bestiary, caught between dream and nightmare. Chago weaves his irreverent, cursed literature into a life well lived, where good always prevails over evil.
The story is simple, while revealing the deep and complex truth of how memory is reconstructed in exile. This is not an epic – true heroism is discovered in the day to day.
