Last Summer (L’été dernier)

Longtime French novelist, filmmaker, professor, and provocateur Catherine Breillat returns to the scene of the taboo with Last Summer (L'été dernier), a steamy and subversive remake of Danish-Egyptian director May el-Toukhy’s 2019 exploration of Queen of Hearts. The story involves a stepmother and stepson taking the idea of a blended family to a considerably more carnal place than most.
The film opens with the idyllic Paris home life of successful attorney Anne (Léa Drucker), her husband Pierre (Olivier Rabourdin), and their two young daughters. When Pierre’s teenage son from a previous marriage moves in, however, forbidden fires are stoked and everything is risked.
