DJ Ahmet
The life-affirming, liberating power of music gets a potent, intoxicating visual counterpart in this film following a pivotal moment in life of Ahmet, a teenage boy from a rural Macedonian village whose bleak and monochromatic sheepherding existence is lit up in vivifying technicolor when he improbably comes across a ecstatic late night rave. (The sheep are perhaps changed as well!)
Like a radio receiving a signal, however, the rhythms and melodies are channeled through Ahmet, reverberating through his stoic father and disconnected younger brother, all three wracked with a collective grief over the death of the family matriarch that manifests in very different ways, as well as a kindred spirit in the form of a beautiful girl desperate for a way out of an upcoming arranged marriage.
