All of a Sudden (Soudain)

Director of a nursing home, Marie-Lou (Virginie Efira) is determined to introduce an innovative philosophy of care rooted in listening and respect for her residents’ dignity. It’s a path that will be profoundly reshaped by an encounter with Mari (Tao Okamoto), a Japanese theater director battling cancer. As the two women form a deep friendship, they join forces in a shared struggle to make the impossible possible.

Japan’s official submission to the Academy Awards and the latest from celebrated filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car, Evil Does Not Exist), All of a Sudden is an exercise in radical empathy.
