Pedro Almodóvar: Precious Gem Master Award

Maestro Pedro Almodóvar with his Miami Film Festival 2021 Precious Gem Master Award. We’re so happy to have had Almodóvar join us virtually at this year’s Festival to accept the award and introduce the Miami premiere of his first English-language film, the live-action short The Human Voice.

Over the years, we have presented numerous Almodóvar classics in our Official Selection, beginning with his third feature Dark Habits (Entre tinieblas) at the very first Miami Film Festival in 1984.

The Precious Gem Award has been Miami Film Festival’s signature award since it was introduced in 2015. It is reserved for honoring the truly special stars of the art form, those one-of-a-kind artists whose contributions to cinema are lasting and unforgettable.
