43rd Miami Film Festival Announces Jury-Prize Winners

The Miami Film Festival is excited to announce the Jury-Prize winners for the 43rd Annual Miami Film Festival, with On The Road taking home the festival’s MARIMBAS Award. See all winners and runners-up below.

$10,000 MARIMBAS Award

Winner: on the road, directed by David Pablos

The award is an international competition for the jury-selected narrative feature film that best exemplifies richness and resonance for cinema’s future. The winner of this award will receive a cash prize of $10,000.

$15,000 Made in MIA Feature Film Award

winner: The Old Man and the Parrot, directed by Gabriel de verona

The Made in MIA Feature Film Award, was given to a jury-selected competition for any genre that feature a substantial portion of their content (story, setting and actual filming location) in South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and/or Monroe counties) and that best utilize their stories and themes for universal resonance. The winner of this award will receive a cash prize of $15,000.

$10,000 Jordan Ressler First Feature Award

winner: Second victims, directed by Zinnini Elkington

Created by the South Florida family of the late Jordan Ressler and sponsored by the Jordan Ressler Charitable Fund, is presented to the jury-selected best film made by a filmmaker making a feature narrative film debut.

$5,000 Made in MIA Short Film Award

winner: SKRRRT!, directed by Gabriela Garcia Medina

First runner-up: “September All Over,” directed by Kali Kahn

Second runner-up: “Colada,” directed by Carmen Pelaez.

Made in MIA Short Film Award is sponsored by ArtesMiami

$4,000 Miami International Short Film Award

winner: Ovary-Acting, directed by Ida Melum

Runner-up: A Hand to Hold, directed by Philip Clyde-Smith

$1,000 Reel South Short Award

winner: If You Really Love Me, Outlive Me, Directed by Saskia d’Altena and Alejandro Ruax

$1,000 Short Documentary Film Award

winner: Oh Whale, directed by Winslow Crane-Murdoch

University of Miami School of Communication, Department of Cinematic Arts and co-presented with UM’s Bill Cosford Cinema.

$1,000 Florida Cinemaslam Award

winner: Ghost of The Marsh, directed by Ross Widener
