TOWER TALKS

Following our sold-out Miami premiere of “My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell it To”, director Jonathan Cuartas and DP Michael Cuartas, will once again join us at Tower Theater Miami for our very first TOWER TALKS event! A new series led by a different guest programmer each month. Jonathan and Michael will lead a discussion about the film that has greatly inspired their work: acclaimed Iranian horror film “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night”!

Jonathan Cuartas is a Colombian-American filmmaker from Miami. In 2017, Cuartas screened his short film, KURU, at our 34th Miami Film Festival. In 2020, Jonathan completed his feature debut, My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To. Jonathan won the Citizen Kane Award for Best Directorial Revelation at Sitges, where the film was also awarded Best Feature Film in the Noves Visions category. The film also received a Special Jury Mention at Tribeca. He’s best friends with his older brother Michael, who just so happens to be a cinematographer.

Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps, and other sordid souls, is a place that reeks of death and hopelessness, where a lonely vampire is stalking the towns most unsavory inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom…blood red.

“It’s so smart, meticulous and fresh that I can only hope it marks the beginning of a provocative new franchise.” Reel Talk Online Candice Frederick

“The film is so stylishly shot, and performed with such swagger, that it transcends its own pretentiousness.” Independent (UK) Geoffrey Macnab
