Maybe you’ve never wondered what it would be like to see Endless Summer cross pollinated with Falling Down. But it’s a cinematic blossom whose time has come when you add a (literally and figuratively) smoldering Nicolas Cage to the mix as a father who just wants to take his son surfing on the same beaches he surfed on as a kid—and maybe close a deal on the very house he grew up in. What should be a triumph of father-son bonding and family legacy building goes wrong when a local gang of surfers led by a charismatic baddie (ok, maybe there’s some Point Break in here, too) play gatekeeper and humiliate him.
Will the Surfer bail on his dreams and his relationship with his son? Or will he find a way to shred the barrel and salvage both?
