The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto)
Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology expert in his early 40s, is on the run. He arrives in Recife during carnival week hoping to reunite with his son, but soon realizes that the city is far from being the nonviolent refuge he seeks.
The Secret Agent was the winner of multiple awards at the Cannes Film Festival, including best actor for Wagner Moura, best director for Kleber Mendonça Filho, and the FIPRESCI Prize.
Kleber Mendonça Filho is a master filmmaker and has directed myriad Brazilian classics, including Neighboring Sounds, Aquarius, and Bacurau. The Secret Agent is one of his most striking films yet: a neo-noir political thriller that also pays loving homage to 1970s cinema.
The Secret Agent is a GEMS Centerpiece and has a higher price ticket, and is excluded from passes.
