MDB Intellectual Property Committee -presents- The Lawyer’s Critical Role in Independent Filmmaking – Lessons from the Trenches

Enjoy Miami Film Festival’s World Premiere_ _screening of Ethan Bloom, written by Maylen Dominguez and directed by Herschel Faber, who is Chair of Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy Miami campus, both of whom were also producers along with Joseph Fogel, on this very “Made in Miami” feature-length independent film starring Joshua Malina (The West Wing), Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight), Carlos Ponce (Couples Retreat), and Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers).
Then join entertainment lawyer and Intellectual Property Committee Vice-Chair Alan David Barson who will moderate a lively discussion with Ms. Dominguez, Mr. Faber and Mr. Fogel on the entertainment lawyer’s critical role throughout the process of independent filmmaking. Our panelists will share their experiences with the sausage-making of indie filmmaking from rights acquisition and financing (including private placement/Reg D) to pre-production, production, post-production, and distribution, and will discuss the challenges of indie film financing including their success with an Indiegogo campaign to partially fund the project, some of the legal challenges they faced and how they were overcome. A Q&A with the panelists will be followed by a cocktail reception and meet & greet.
This is a true insider’s view not to be missed!
