Directed by Oscar Gómez, a renowned Cuban-born writer, composer, playwright, and music producer based in Spain, the film captures a unique artistic moment. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Gómez participated in the production of several of Celia Cruz’s most celebrated albums.
The documentary focuses on a concert held in April 2001, which brought together Celia and her dear friend, Spanish artist Emilio Alberto Aragón—better known as Miliki—a beloved singer, accordionist, and clown who delighted Cuban children on 1950s television alongside his brothers Gaby and Fofó.
The event’s stage was set up overnight, without prior publicity, on Little Havana’s Calle Ocho and 15th Avenue, between the well-known Domino Park and the iconic Tower Theater.
In addition to Celia and Miliki, the lively show featured other emblematic figures of Cuban popular music, including Willy Chirino, Albita Rodríguez, Donato Poveda, and Alain Pérez, performing with an all-star orchestra.
La Cuba mía also includes revealing conversations between Celia and Miliki about Havana’s historic grandeur, as well as insightful comments from the other musical luminaries. The documentary features additional appearances by Carlos Alberto Montaner, Arturo Sandoval, Guillermo Álvarez Guedes, and Paquito D’Rivera.
This film will screen in SPANISH with NO English Subtitles.
