In this critically acclaimed Sundance selection featuring a stellar performance by Academy Award-nominated actress Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), 12-year-old Lil Ant (Bodhi Dell) transforms his working-class neighborhood beneath the LAX flight path into a living mythology, where family members become deities and the sky is crowded with endless departures. As he searches for connection with his conflicted, god-like father, he finds support in his close-knit community that helps him reconcile myth and reality.
Deftly blending magical realism, social realism, and references to Greek mythology, director Walter Thompson-Hernandez expands on his 2022 short film of the same name, putting a new lyrical lens on the typical father-son story.
Danielle Brooks will join us to receive Miami Film Festival’s Art of Light Award.
