Everyone Is Lying to You for Money

Actor and author Ben McKenzie (The O.C., Gotham) swaps scripts for scams in his documentary debut exploring the wild world of crypto. Based on his New York Times bestseller Easy Money, actor-turned-sleuth McKenzie traces crypto’s unsettling rise from obscure internet fetish to a multitrillion dollar market, asking one simple question: Could it all be a scam? Armed with an undergraduate econ degree and a healthy BS detector, he faces down so-called financial wunderkind Sam Bankman-Fried and treks to El Salvador in search of a supposed crypto El Dorado, only to discover tall tales and empty promises – and lots and lots of fraud. In an age where crypto further entangles itself within broader financial markets, McKenzie’s documentary is an urgent interrogation of an industry.
Director Ben McKenzie will join us for an extended conversation following the screening.
