As Ángela, a deaf woman, awaits the birth of her child with her hearing partner, Héctor, fears about motherhood roil to the surface as she confronts the reality of raising a baby in a world not built for her.
Winner of two awards, including the Audience Award of the Panorama Section at the Berlin International Film Festival, director Eva Libertad’s film explores an unprecedented theme in cinema: the relationship between a deaf woman and motherhood. It tells the semi-biographical story of its lead, deaf actress Miriam Garlo, whose performance evokes strong parallels with Marlee Matlin’s Oscar-winning portrayal in Children of a Lesser God. She is joined by Goya-nominated Álvaro Cervantes (The Sex of the Angels) and veteran Spanish Basque actor Elena Irureta (Patria).
