Coolie

Twenty-two-year-old Chulin, a poor orphaned Chinese girl, leaves the shores of Southern China and ventures thousands of miles across the oceans to Cuba as a promised bride to Chinese coolie Tung Ho. But once she arrives she finds that her expected fate is destined to change, as she overcomes many hurdles to eventually fall in love with her master, Don Leonardo Alejandro Ortega, the Cuban owner of a large sugar cane plantation – making the country her home and Ortega her heart and soul.

Miami Film Festival will screen the first three episodes of this new episodic series directed by Arvin Chen (Pachinko) and Julian Acosta, from esteemed producer Meileen Choo.
