AfroCuba ’78 (AfroCuba ’78, el documental)

Directed by Emilio Oscar Alcalde
United States
2020
85 mins

AfroCuba ’78 tells the story and the destiny of the Cuban jazz group AfroCuba and its original musicians, now dispersed throughout the world.

In 1978, they produced their only LP, which presented a musical concept of extraordinary strength in performance. The LP's release was never allowed in Cuba.

Recollections of rehearsals intertwined with personal stories are emotionally narrated, along with photographic reconstruction of moments from the recording sessions. The result is a raw account of what could have been, while offering a glimpse of the fate of the group members' lives.
