About
When 26-year-old Yingying Zhang left her life in China behind to study in the U.S., she had everything in the world going for her: a loving family, a boyfriend she hoped to marry, and her dream of becoming a scientist right within her grasp. But within a few weeks of arriving at the University of Illinois, Yingying vanished without a trace.
Finding Yingying closely follows the Zhang family's journey as they search to unravel the mystery of her disappearance and seek justice for their daughter. Flipping the typical true crime structure on its head, this is not an exploitative mystery where the alleged perpetrator takes center stage. Brimming with radical empathy, filmmaker Jenny Shi combines substantial access to the police investigation with a sensitive portrait of the incredible young woman behind the missing posters.
The film will be accompanied by a Live Q&A with Director Jiayan "Jenny" Shi, Producer Diane Quon, and Co-Producer Shilin Sun, moderated by Miami Film Festival's Lauren Cohen. Friday, October 9, 6:30pm EST.
This screening is sponsored by Alacran Group.
