OUT IN THE OPEN (INTEMPERIE)

About

Writer-director Benito Zambrano first made a distinct mark on Spanish cinema with his critically-acclaimed debut Solas, which played at the Miami Film Festival. He now returns to Miami with a Goya-Award winning hit that is as intimate and insightful as his debut, but set in the gorgeous, epic Western-like backdrop of the Spanish heartland.

In 1946, a mere seven years after the end of the Civil War, Spain is still reeling from despair and poverty. A young boy escapes his tyrannical estate and sets off on the run. The ruthless overseer of the estate sends a search party to pursue him: dogs, men from the village, and a determined foreman. Beyond the search party the boy faces a hostile, arid plain that he must cross if he is to escape from his pursuers. When he meets a grizzled, laconic shepherd (played by Spanish superstar Luis Tosar), it becomes clear that this quiet but resourceful man is the boy's only hope to be saved.

Winner of the Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay (and nominated for five Goyas in total, including Best Picture), this thriller-western is one of the most acclaimed Spanish films of the year.

The film will be accompanied by a Live Q&A With Director Benito Zambrano, moderated by Miami Film Festival's Nicolas Calzada on Sunday October 11 at 6pm EST.

This screening is sponsored by ViendoMovies presented by Xfinity and FlixLatino.
